Living World

A world that runs itself on my home server: plants, animals and people with bodies, needs and memories, where nothing they do is scripted. Built from scratch; a research project in progress.

Live from my home server: the worlds running right now. It refreshes every 30 seconds.

Most simulations write the behaviour in. Living World doesn't: it simulates the world itself and lets whatever happens, happen. No scripted behaviour, no quests, no player.

What it is

  • A simulation engine I'm building from scratch, running on my own home server.
  • Worlds with weather, plants, animals and people, each with a body, needs and a memory.
  • Everything they do has to come out of the world itself. Nothing is scripted.

Where it stands

It's a research project, not a game, and it's early. Most worlds don't make it, and the ones that do look more like clever animals than people. An earlier version already showed knowledge surviving from one generation to the next.

The live board shows the worlds running on my server right now. A nicer view is on the way.
